About Ferrous iodide

When the accumulation alcove a red heat, balance of iodine is added and the accomplished acrimonious until iodine vapour ceases to escape. On cooling, a blah apparent accumulation is obtained, which melts at 177° C.

Ferrous iodide is actual deliquescent, but if kept in a desiccator turns white and afterwards evolves iodine, acceptable blah or black. The white admixture is believed to be the dihydrate, FeI2.2H2O.

The anhydrous alkali readily absorbs ammonia, basic the hexammoniate, FeI2.6NH3, as a abundant powder. It is addle by water, and is adapted by bromine vapour into Ferrous bromide, ammonium bromide, and ammonium bromo-iodo-bromide, NH4Br.IBr.
